Why I Still Step in Front of the Camera

The nerves. The excitement. The little voice that asks, “What if I don’t know what to do?” I know that feeling, because I still choose to be photographed, too.

Recently, I had a session with another photographer. Even after years of photographing women, I felt that familiar mix of anticipation and vulnerability as I got ready. I thought about what I was wearing. I wondered how I would look. I was excited to see the photos, but I also understood why stepping in front of a camera can feel like such a big deal.

This is where I’ll share one of my portraits from that session.

I believe it matters for me to have that experience regularly. It brings me back to the moment my clients walk through the door: the deep breath before we begin, the uncertainty about posing, and the hope that they’ll love what they see. Remembering that feeling helps me be the photographer you need in that moment.

You do not have to arrive knowing your angles or how to pose. That is my job.

For the past eight years, I’ve continued to learn through workshops, classes, and hands-on training because the way I guide you matters. I pay attention to the details that help a photograph feel like you—your posture, your expression, the light, and the small adjustments that make you feel at ease. I’ll coach you throughout the session, so you always know what to do next.

But an incredible boudoir experience is about more than knowing where to put your hands. It’s about feeling comfortable enough to let go of the pressure to “get it right.” It’s feeling seen, cared for, and free to enjoy yourself. It’s realizing that you can feel powerful, strong, and beautiful exactly as you are today.

That is the experience I want to give you.

Someday, when you look back at your portraits, I want you to remember how you felt while we made them. I want you to remember the moment you relaxed, trusted yourself, and saw just how remarkable you are.

If you’ve been thinking about a boudoir session but feel a little nervous, I understand. I’ve been on your side of the camera. I would love to be the photographer who helps you feel at home in front of mine.
